Bamboo Grove Reading Response #1

1. Yoko is a girl who is very scared of the war. She doesn't want to do things the way others want her to do. Stubborn she may be, if the situation demands, she will follow orders. There are many examples in the text, such as page 36 where she is told to put her blanket on a blood-stained new mother, but she says "No! I don't want my blanket stained with blood." After being told one more time, she put it on, which shows that she has some good in her.

2. I think that Yoko is a bit annoyed by Ko, but she appreciates having a sister to help her. Also, I'm pretty sure in their culture they call them Honorable. Maybe she is just so used to calling her Honorable Sister, and maybe she was good back then. An example was when she said "It's mean of Honorable Sister." Ko has good intentions, and needs to find a way to explain it.

3. The Kawishima family is very kind to the passengers because they gave their food, even though they didn't have any to eat, and they refrained from eating so they wouldn't cause the passengers displeasure. Even though Yoko is reluctant and stubborn, she gives up her things for the greater good. Ko and Mother are very giving. On the train they give up some of their things to help people, such as giving water to the passengers. They help each other and others in the toughest of situations, and are very generous.

1. I agree totally. I would put Yoko as slow. As it takes her time to realize the importance in or at the moment.

2. I think that Yoko just doesnt like being bossed, But who does? I think if Ko said the things that need to happen in a nicer tone or way maybe they could work out. Or Yoko could notice that its for her own good.

3.I think that is so sweet what they did. How they were nice to the people on the train instead of being stubborn and not sharing anything. I think that was so generous

1) I think that yoko is being a little stubborn because she wants her regular life backs before the war started. But she is growing more open since she is starting to realize whats going on.

2) I think before the war started yoko was bossed around that much. But now she's probabling encountering something new and she doens't like it now but then she'll be grateful to have ko.

3) I think that it was very generous of what yoko's family did on that train. They helped some of the patients survive on the train.

1.) I would also be scared of the war.Even though Yoko is very stubborn, she gives in very easily and listens to her mother.

2.) Yoko and Ko remind me of my sister and me because we arguee a lot and boss eachother around but we still love eachother. Maybe Ko could try and be less bossy.

3.) It shows that they care for everyone around them and not just themselves. I think that is a good thing

1.I agree with kezia and ashlen because it must br really hard to go through all these events in life that scare her and all most want to make her kill her self because she is so terefied.

2.I think that ko can be a little bit bossy and could lighten up but if she just say things in a nicer tone and if yoko just for the sake of her own good then I thn they could work together fine and work so well as if one.

3.I think that what they did was so nice of them because they gave up most of there food and water so they wouldnt be disgraceful. and i think that is very fortunete for them.
