Independent reading post #1

NAME: Ethan Chan DATE: Saturday, Feburary 23, 2008
TITLE: The Innocent Man TIME: 1 Hr. 23 Seconds
AUTHOR: John Grisham PAGES 1-39
TOTAL PAGES THIS WEEK: 39
RESPONSE:
In my book, called "The Innocent Man", a crime takes place in Ada Oklohoma. A woman named Debbie has been brutally raped and murdered. The crime is just unfolding, and a man named Ron Williamson is suspected to be somehow involved. He was just a would-be baseball star, said to be the next Mickey Mantle. A bit spoiled by his family, he is gifted with natural charm and gets almost whatever he wants. He was about to become famous as a professional baseball player. That is, until his dreams were broken by booze, drugs, and girls.
This book is a bit confusing, but all books are in the beginning. Sometimes the author gives hints or even states what happens in the future. I think Ron should take better care of himself. He lets himself go with all of the beer and sometimes celebrates winning too much. Instead I would have a brief celebration then get ready for the next game. I'm a bit bothered at the idea of a woman getting raped and murdured shortly afterwards. It is a bad way to end life. It also surprised me because it's the first time I've read something this serious. I think next, Ron's life will be explained more and that more of the crime will be solved.

Brave new world post #4

1. The end was quite surprising because it ended without much explanation. Also, him being hanged was a surprise, and I didn't figure it out at first. I thought that he should give himself a chance instead of killing himself.

2. If I could ask the author, I would ask why he wrote the book in this manner, and in this setting. I would do this because I am interested in why he did it like so.

3. Flagrantly-Shockingly noticable-I thought that this word was detailed and interesting.
Loathsome-Causing feelings of disgust-I heard this word from somewhere and didn't know it's meaning.
Ingratiating-Pleasing-I thought that this word was descriptive and simple at the same time.
